Photography amateurs rejoice! Selfie sticks are here to enhance your pleasure of taking selfies with a larger background. How did it get so popular with such a great following? Selfie itself became extremely popular as the trend of taking pictures of oneself and then immediately uploading it with a tinted filter of some sort to hoard likes all across Facebook and Instagram, Social media is climbing with no sight of it’s peak. Selfie stick or selfie monopod are now one of the most popular accessories that are seeing a lot of use. Legend has it that in the recent Oscars ceremony the selfie taken by Bradley Cooper clearly showed that to fit everyone in he needed longer arms and thus selfie sticks started becoming much more popular.

They just hold the camera on the end while the camera faces the photographer him or herself and they also include a button to take the snap, which makes things a lot easier and hassle free. Others use Bluetooth control to make the whole experience a lot smoother. It’s a lot more appropriate to take the picture of yourself and your family on a vacation without anyone missing out while not bothering a stranger to take the picture. There are also stabilizers and other gadgets on the stick which helps take much better pictures aswell.

There are a lot of selfie sticks in market that are varying in price and they do a lot of unique things aswell. Price ranges anywhere from between 5$’s for a basic functioning stick to 300$’s professional manfrotto aluminum body monopods. Professional grade monopods are usually made out of aluminum alloys as they are a lot lighter indeed than their stainless steel counterparts and are quite durable aswell as resistant to the harsh environment. Aluminum is quite light and has a silvery appearance when uncolored which looks quite stylish.

Stainless steel selfie sticks or any other product infact is a lot stronger, meaning they can hold a lot of weight. This is not really that necessary when using a phone that’s not even going to weigh a pound. The steel is heavier as well which is a downside too. But it’s sturdy and has a solid look and feel to it. Stainless steel selfie sticks may seem like it’s worthless to make but in reality it is a lot easier to weld and much more impact resistant making it easier to produce. Thus they are in general quite a bit cheaper than their aluminum based selfie sticks although having quite a few downsides to it.

The body of the selfie stick speaks a lot when buying one as the body is pretty much all it has to it. Always keep an eye out when buying a selfie stick that’s a lot more expensive as it should have special features such Bluetooth enabled snapping and stabilizers to hold the camera and reduce shake. People may look down on the selfie monopod but it’s a great invention that is going to see a lot of use in our time and in the future.
